Nobody is safe in the secret hour.
Strange things happen at midnight in the town of Bixby, Oklahoma.
For one secret hour each night, the town belongs to the dark creatures that haunt the shadows. Only a small group of people know about the secret hour — only they are free to move about the midnight time.
These people call themselves Midnighters. Each one has a different power that is strongest at midnight: Seer, Mindcaster, Acrobat, Polymath. For years the Midnighters and the dark creatures have shared the secret hour, uneasily avoiding one another. All that changes when the new girl with an unmistakable midnight aura appears at Bixby High School.
Jessica Day is not an outsider like the other Midnighters. She acts perfectly normal in every way. But it soon becomes clear that the dark creatures sense a hidden power in Jessica . . . and they’re determined to stop her before she can use it.
A story of courage, shadowy perils, and unexpected destiny, the secret hour is the first volume of the mesmerizing Midnighters trilogy by acclaimed author Scott Westerfeld.

Sign me up Scott Westerfeld!
Westerfeld creates a wonderful and unique world in the first novel of the Midnighters – The Secret Hour. His description of the 25th hour, is incredibly beautiful and will not be forgotten easily. The reader has no trouble imagining his frozen world, with descriptions down to the last frozen raindrop. Just beautiful.
I was sucked in and left motionless. This book was amazing. I haven’t read, or not heard of for that matter, anything along the same plot lines as this book. In my opinion it was incredibly original and creepy at times..which we all know I adore. The whole concept of the creatures, or darklings, makes me happy that I was born at 11am. Their back story is so intriguing that you just want to know more.
Although this book was written from multiple points of view, which normally I hate, I didn’t mind it. Certain POV’s were lacking though. Just in the sense that you always wanted more from the characters, because what you were given didn’t carry much weight in terms of the story. You learn so much about this new world in the first book and the relationships shared between characters, that I can’t wait to continue this series to find out more.
So come one and come all! Let’s be dragged into the secret hour together. I recommend it, and you won’t forget it.
